As Research Director, James represents the beating heart of Critical; he came to the company straight from university more than 20 years ago and is every bit as passionate about market research – and Critical – to this day. Nowadays he advises on all of the companies’ projects when it comes to design and later, results interpretation and additionally he takes a special interest in any financial surveys. Having worked in the financial sector for most of his career James has an exceptional grasp of both financial consumers and finance companies. He has, for example, worked closely with the Financial Conduct Authority on their consumer credit program and published a number of papers on researching complex financial products. Outside of the office James has always been a petrol-head and has recently moved from fast cars to seriously fast bikes. He is also something of a living room DJ and rarely listens to music at less than 180bpm (his long suffering family are all experts in Dutch Gabba!) James enjoys a good graph, a good beard, technology that works (‘smug’ Apple products excepted), Mario Kart and zombies and he dislikes runners, cyclists and egg-mayonnaise. In an alternate universe he would be working as a motorcycle courier in the Alps or a sun-kissed DJ in Ibiza.
